Improving Fitness And Health From Home: How Effective Are Home Workouts?

According to the latest research conducted by the British Chiropractic Association, 52% of the British public plan to use digital fitness mediums, such as home workout videos and virtual personal trainers, to help stay fit and healthy as lockdown restrictions are lifted. With this in mind, let’s look at some tips to help you get the most out of your home workouts. 

1. Pace yourself

Starting with small and achievable goals is one of the best ways to keep yourself motivated. Setting aside just 15-20 minutes a day to begin with, for a run, workout or stretches is a healthy and reasonable target. With time, this will become easier, and the duration of your workout can be increased when you’re ready. 

2. Create a fitness space 

Creating your own fitness space not only helps to eliminate distractions meaning you have a a better and more productive workout, but this also ensures you have a safe and comfortable space in which you can exercise without the risk of injury. Before starting to exercise, take just a couple of minutes to clear the space around you of any obstacles and potential trip hazards. 

3. Warm up

When undertaking any physical activity, we always advise warming up beforehand. Doing so is crucial to prevent yourself getting injured and will prepare your body for exercise. Start with gentle stretches and arm swings and, if you are able to, work up to dynamic stretches such as lunges, squats. 

4. Mix it up

Maintaining a mix between different forms of exercises – such as a combination of cardio, stretches, balance and strength exercises can be beneficial. According to Entrepreneur Magazine, mixing workout sets and styles for days of the week is one of the best ways to keep it fun and keep yourself engaged!

5. Eating well 

Eating a healthy and balanced diet, alongside regular exercise is essential in supporting our physical and mental health. Both of these factors are important for maintaining a healthy weight, and healthier lifestyles are also associated with improved sleep and mood. 

6. Listen to your body

When starting a new form of exercise, it is not uncommon to feel some aches or discomfort.
